St Barnabas Chapel (2009)

Having had dealings with Castle Morpeth (Northumberland) planning services unit in the past. (It took about two years to sort out my kitchen extension).  I fully expected a vaguely worded enquiry about installing SWH and PV panels to be the start of a similar protracted battle. Much to my surprise within a week I got a reply stating that "The proposed work can be carried out under the Permitted Development Rights." I hope other planning departments are taking a similar enlightened attitude!

The law changes this April 2008 to brush aside all planning nonsense for microgeneration. They probably looked ahead and decided it was not worth the fight, because in April you won't need their permission at all!

Does this mean that you can now get a job as a planner even if you have a birth certificate?

No. If your panel/turbine is within the permitted limits then you can install it without planning permission.

But if your panel/turbine exceeds the permitted limits then you must apply for planning permission.

So if anybody asks......... its 149mm above the roof  Wink
