A long time ago Mitchino asked me to post some more detailed pics of my 3Kw turbine.  So here they are.

This one is of me cleaning the Oh, how I wish it was better from the top end coarse filter.  I built a pair of dams (about 1.3m high) and the water is collected between them.  As you can see it makes a good footbridge too.

This one shows the pipe run down the side of the river.  Please don't ask why there are three pipes.  It's a bit like asking "Why do humans have an appendix?"

This one is of me again, (I will turn up a lot -get used to it  laugh) turning off the valve that stops the water flowing into the filter box.  It's a pressurised filter with a metal grill in the middle.  The water flows in on the bottom left, diagonally across and out on the top right.  You can see the inspection panel on top.

These two show me taking off the gasket (a bit of lino) and the insides of the filter.  The screen is a piece of metal plate with hundreds of 15mm holes in it.  pre-made, no drilling necessary.

I have turned the water back on a little and am using a stick to help flush the debris out of the top of the filter.  Amongst other things I've caught fish, frogs and a very surprised looking mink!

These three show the turbine located in two old tractor rims.  They give the draught tube sufficient submersion and help protect the whole thing when the river is 4' deep and raging past.

Some of the fine debris that gets past the main filter.  I get asked how often do I need to clean it out.  That depends on the river conditions and season.  Storms in the Autumn are the worst, gentle flow in the summer is no problem.

Bob,

well impressed - great job.

What do you do with the power ?   And how much do you produce on an annual basis ?

best

Bill,

I don't know how much I produce.  I almost make enough to supply all my needs without recourse to a genny.  It does depend a lot on how wet or windy it is.  Currently I'm supplying a 12 room house and workshops and have only had to run the diesel for an hour since November.
