http://tinyurl.com/28xeql - somewhat dear to my heart this story - it's "just up the road", and we have a gross attack of nimbies  Grin
Having grown up at the foot of the south downs, spent loads of my childhood walking and riding across them, I'd be overjoyed to see them sprouting a good crop of wind flowers........(which is how I view them!) Grin

No nimbys round here. They can stick it in my back garden if they want, as long as I get a 1% cut.  Grin

Have to respect the man, daughter will be very pleased as she plans to study Zoology and would carry on his battle given half a chance.

We had a brisk discussion in the office last week about turbines on the landscape. Turbines won!

When I was young, you either liked attenborough or bellamy. Clearly the same applies to renewables - bellamy being quite definitely in the other camp.

Perhaps, a different approach should be used - contact Campaign to Protect Rural England and ask them to name some locations which they would approve for wind turbines. If they say they can't name any, then they've exposed themselves as being anti-windturbine, rather than simply objecting to areas of beauty being spoilt. If they named any areas, you'd have removed one of the largest obstacles.

what I do find laughable (and oft-repeated) amongst the "anti brigade" is the fatuous claim that wind turbines are no good because they only work 29% of the time............... Roll Eyes

Paul,  List

Grid losses have averaged approx  8% of total electricity generated for the last 36 years.

http://stats.berr.gov.uk/energystats/dukes5_1_2.xls

As this is an XL spreadsheet - Just divide column F by column B and express as a percentage to get percentage losses.

I am very dubious about Campaign for Rural England after receiving full support from them for our proposed farm diversification with the erection of 9 stables only to find that at the planning appeal they turn up at the hearing and give evidence against us. Talk about being two faced. needless to say we lost the appeal due to the nimby neighbours  not wanting a farm or their doorstep even though the farm had been there since 1650

Ken,

Have a look at the National Grid report, via this topic:

Not sure who to believe, but if we take the average 95% that piece of electric string is a wonderful resource to connect us to the wind flowers.
