gshp, and mess... header tank is just for the gshp, the main boiler is behind the ladder. The gshp only heats a single, very large, room.

Is that chain in the last pic straight off the water wheel? Looks like you have been very busy, and the system incorporates the necessary diversity of energy sources;does the wheel turn yet? Super project Guy!

yes - thats directly off the wheel - the chain is 1 1/2" pitch, and the current ratio is 20:1 - I have a new sprocket to take it to 40:1
Thats then going on a tractor gearbox, of which the lowest (highest?) ratio is 300:1 and the highest (lowest?) is 30:1
Ive ordered three rolls of sticky backed 3" armaflex tape to do all the joints on the solar pipework...

a pic of it actually spinning, water is JUST on - the sluice gate is open 1.5 to 2 inches, and can open about 18 inches.

and if anyone can get me a chain with this size, let me know. Its inch and a half pitch, and made by the Coventry Chain Company, and is probably an agricultural size chain. Renold (who now own Coventry, back from 1950 or whatever) cant help.... so when this wears out, im pretty screwed. The 'flakes' are graphite flakes, not swarf
