I have just been to price the plumbing for a group of barns (4) to be converted. I said to the developer he should consider having solar installed, "I don't like the look of it".
He even dismissed flaty's Roll Eyes

Not mental, just very poorly informed.

The vast majority of the population just don't "get it".  Personally, I would put a large proportion of the blame on the poor levels of science education and on the media's inability to report science fairly.  Most people only have a vague sense of what Climate Change means.  The vast majority of people have no clue about peak oil / energy gaps.

I happened across an article on the Daily Mail's website the other day about the Grangemouth strike (I don't make a habit of reading the Daily Mail).  The article itself seemed fine but the comments were amazingly misinformed.  Most of the comments were about pump prices.  Some people were saying things like "oil grows under the ocean for free" and "it only costs 3p per litre to pump oil so why are we paying £1.15 at the pumps?".  Where do we start?

I recently worked with a very intelligent, very will educated director.  However, he was under the impression that a 2 degree C rise in temperature would be "great" and what are we all so worried about?  "It'd make the UK like the South of France".  I did my best to persuade him otherwise.

As a population, we are no more intelligent than bacteria.  Consume at full throttle until all the resources are depleted and then die off.  Except we have a cunning way to catalyse the die-off: advanced weaponry.

 Hi all.

Just think if the media could create a situation like they have with the Grangemouth strike ie:- fuel purchases (fear)
with likes of solar energy we would be sorted .

( some media is good but alot is just to sell papers )

You may have seen one of the TOD contributors signatures:

Similar thing,I suggested to a developer that he add solar hot water:'naaa never pay for itself in a million years' but of course, from his point of view it wouldnt.Buy building, divide into as many units as you can get away with, build as cheap as possible, sell, reap profit,it never would pay HIM back!
