'er indoors gave me the original edition back in the 70's, and an updated version a couple of years ago - absolutely superb, rightfully viewed as the "Selfsufficiency Bible" - been threatening to make an effluence digester based on that article for over 30 years - WILL get round to it sooner or later! Grin

You would probably be better putting the paddle in from the bottom and using a canal boat stern tube to keep the liquid in.

John Seymours other famous book "The complete food garden" got me started on the deep bed method of cultivation which I have refined over the years to a system using trays and deep pots.
