as part of my 'eco-club' at 6th form (yes, okay i'm a nerd) i want to install wind turbines on the roof of the school, however this would probably involve them being at least part made by students at the school.
please, does anyone know where/ if there are plans for turbine blades or something similar?
if they do i would love to be able to use them, maybe start a lunchtime project for people who want to help us.

also, i would like to know if anyone can think of a suitable computing system to regulate, channel and convert the electricity instead of having many for individual turbines, to have one main hub it can all be sorted from.

any help is seriously appreciated!

google otherpower, there are a few small generators designed for educational purposes

I cant see the school letting you install on the roof, insurances H&S etc etc.

Have a look for Hugh Piggott, I think he explains in his book how to make blades as well as the rest of the turbine. - I have bought his book but not yet seen it.

Is there any progress on the various house projects as I think the last post was about the lister startomatic? Perhaps you could poke Bodgling Father into some more posts?   Wink

Your best starting point is www.gotwind.org - on this site Ben shows you how to make your own turbines from virtually waste items - hard drive motors (bound to be plenty of old PC equipment at school) and various other things. He also has a template which allows you to easily make a twin-blade from a section of old downpipe (or if that doesn't appeal to you, use some new pipe) - have a look. It's very easy and very nifty.

If you have turbines of the same voltage all you need to do is rectify the AC outputs and run the DC current direct to one battery bank.
