B&Q in conjunction with British gas are offering 2 free energy saving bulbs this weekend in exchange for one old type bulb
So take your partner and two old bulbs and come away with 4 new ones.

Hmm, they closed the B&Q in my town and the next one and built a superstore in the next town. So I have to drive instead of walk to claim my lightbulbs. How far can I drive and still be good?

And then ... where am I going to get some old-type bulbs from  Cheesy

Not as good a deal, but my local Tesco is doing energy saving bulbs @ 2 for 1. This is a good deal when looking for GU10 energy saving bulbs as I have been, £5 for two 7w GU10's - pretty good value I thought. Maybe your local Tesco is also doing this offer...

I was sent 4 bulbs by my electric supplier, british gas.  Not much use to me with a bayonet cap as mine are all GU10 or small ES fume

Can't remember which - either Tesco or Asda were doing a 2 for 1 deal on CFLs AND they were doing reasonably priced 5W bulbs (usually non-existant or expensive in most ranges). I've gone from 11W to 7W and now to 5W on our landing, and so far no one has noticed the difference. Eyes adjust well to slightly lower light levels, and as long as you're not sewing/reading/constructing electronics projects/applying makeup (come on, I know some of you do!) by the light it's difficult to tell the difference.

The only thing I've notived is it's noticeably dim on startup - not a problem for a light that is on for relatively long periods.

Energy saving - 365days x 10hours x 6W = 22kWh per year = £3.28 - even pays for itself in a year.

I kept the lights off for Halloween for a while, and learned that I really couldn't manage zero watts: I burned my arm on the stove as I reached for the damper.

That'll learn me...

I went along to Tesco in Hove and they did not have any GU10  so I picked up 5 CFLs for 40pence, on doing this I cancelled my drive to B&Q which would have cost £2.00 in petrol to  get there for the two free bulbs.

Tesco are doing low energy bulbs. £1 each or 5 for 40p!!. I thought it was a misprint and checked. Bought 10 low energy for 80p!!! up to 20w. Ideal for the loft etc.

Good ol' Etcso pricing. Recently found carton-soup at 98p, or 2 for £2. So I just bought one! And comparing jars of instant coffee - was the large 300g jar the best buy? Yes - better value than the 200g. Just about to buy it when I spotted that 3x100g jars cost less. So that really makes sense, in terms of packaging and glass jars.

"found carton-soup at 98p, or 2 for £2"

I use wwwMySupermarket.co.uk to shop at Tescos - it shows all those deals, and there are often bogoffs on smaller sizes that are cheaper than larger sizes.  (You don't have to shop online, you can take a printout to your local store ... or compare price between local Tesco and Asda etc.

The 5 for 40p offer in tesco included screw thread bulbs. Try Ikea for large and small edison screw thread bulbs - they are usually pretty cheap (although I haven't been there for several years, so things may have changed).
