So about 7% conversion losses (or 93% efficient).
How does that compare the inverters specs?

Hi Justme,
There are two efficiencies given: Max efficiency of 95.3% and European Efficiency of 94.4%. At the moment I am getting under very overcast skies 94W AC and 113W DC which is not bad I think. I remain pleased but early days yet! One worry is that the local area 430/240V transformer sits by out chapel so the grid tie inverter designed for 230V optimal sits at about 250V StB

You could always make a 250V to 230V step down transformer I didn't think you would be making more than you use during the day (what with blowing the service fuse with demand). That is good going, maybe feed the nightstores on the output untill you get a export meter? Stuart

Stu the transformer would need to be c 99% efficient - don't think I'll bother! But very pleased with the system performance both the PV and inverter, though nice to have a day when it was sunny most of the time. i think it has rained every single day since commissioned. Was hoping to post some actual data tonight but need a serial connector (RS232 9 pin D type). Used to trip over these ten years ago but must have ditched all mine in the various clear outs. Will try to pick up one at work tomorrow (if there are any left) Sean

" (RS232 9 pin D type)" I've probably got some of those lying around - are you just looking for one to solder yourself, or a 25D to 9D converter, or somesuch? Let me know if you don;t have any luck looking in your box-of-bits at work and I'll have a look in mine

Sean,
I got a letter from npower yesterday - it said if I want to get onto FITs, I need to make sure my generating station is registered for ROCs sooner rather than later. The tone of the letter, whilst vague, did seem to indicate that they thought I'd automatically be switched over to FITs once they come online. We'll see, but these people often know a little more than we do.
NB reason for the reminder - OFGEM have lost my agent's (npower) application AGAIN. Turns out that Ofgem now only accept online applications, and all paper applications are automatically binned - it seems that npower weren't aware of this - warning to anyone else expecting their utility company to register them for ROCs!

Kristen thanks. Have found an old serial connector - just need now to dig up an old PC with a serial connector! I suspect there are bits of kit which will interface RS232 to wireless but need to look. Ivan thanks. This is most interesting. At present I am rattling through the paperwork for my DNO etc. but am fed up of npower so am switching to Good Energy. Will try to register for ROCs as soon as the dust settles. I was rather hoping Good Energy could do that for me but will keep a weather eye out.

I'm sure he won't thank me for publishing his email address, but the man at Ofgem is Peter.Collins @ ofgem.gov.uk

Failing that Serial-to-USB maybe?

Hi Stu, Kristen, Ivan thanks yes I have an old laptop which I will try to sort out but will put my digital hat on soon and try to get some sort of PIC/OneWire solution going soon. Stu nice Avatar. Can you tell us about it? Also thanks for the link - too much to digest tonight... Ivan thanks a name is always useful.. Sean

Yes it long that guide!
hmm...kind of long and bitter story that one. In short.... Its a preserved Class 37 diesel electric from 1960. The second oldest in preservation. The NRM has the first. and having been round that one too can say ours was nicer. I used to be tech officer and look after it quite well, then some mad people on the committee thought they could easily use it to play on the proper railway. I told them they couldn't easily or cheaply do it and there was a problem with the engine we needed to fix first. They moved it at great expense nearer themselves and I was no longer needed. It now doesn't get looked after well and doesn’t work. Morale is don’t spend huge amounts of time money and effort on something you care about that isn't yours! I've got something else to look after fairly soon and I will be part owner so happy days again.

Stu proper big boy's toys! Can see the attraction maybe when I retire... Desp you would have been most welcome, and you missed a good weekend. Hard work but a real buzz actually implementing a PV system. Astronomers doubly welcome so send me a PM if ever in the Newcastle area. SleepyB. With all the swarf and trampling around the roof the co-ax from the antenna to the TV is no more! So will need to come down. Sean P.S. serial connectors are still an issue. My older PC has no card. I have a Win 98 machine which might do the trick...
