Planning? - don't be so silly! Yet again the government demonstrates the power of brown envelopes lobbying groups........ Resistance is futile, the planners now know there is no point in wasting our money in resisting applications for anything the one-party state has decided upon...... Complain to your MP? - not a lot of point, he'll be arrested as a terrorist, and anything he received from you will be in the hands of the UK thought police - welcome to our brave new Stalinist world! whistlie

Resistance is futile if 80% of the population want to be able to turn on their tumble dryer and plasma TV when they want to. Given the choice of power or no power the nimbie's would sooner have the power but I guess some on this forum and other eco parties would sooner leave the coal where it is and not have the power or limited power. We then will have a baby boom like in the 70's when we had power cuts and no telly to watch. Grin

There is no stalinist pressure here its joe public that want it now and as long as they want it. Not withstanding that a government without people working because of no electricity would not have any income unless they became more like the old lords and taxed all the surfs etc.

Joe public want it all now, hence the bank lending bonanza in the last 15 years.

No one wants to wait and save the cash, they opt for cheap credit and buy today, pay later.
The energy use is the same, blow tomorow, i want the here and now today.

If the coal is not left in the ground, or burnt properly, then resistance will indeed be futile. The results are likely to be as shown in the excellent animation at http://wakeupfreakout.org/film/tipping.html

Joe public can be persuaded to do something they don't want to do by good leadership. Winston Churchill in 1940 is a good example.

I'm sorry but seeing Hitlers army take over most of Europe was enough incentive to get Joe public off their butt.

But trying to get Joe public to do something about a problem they don't believe in let alone see, is going to be hard.

Like stopping people driving 200Metres in a car to the local shops or to take the kids to school.

Like the idiot on TV the other night that said he would probably not recycle even if he had to pay for the total weight of his wheely bin.

What the great comatose public has got to get into it's collective thick heads is that the onslaught of barbarian hordes is but a mere trifle in comparison to the fate which awaits mankind if we don't get on a war footing........... yesterday! whistlie
