Just an update on my refund from Eon for our lower gas usage.  They took me by surprise a little.  I rang them up armed with the fact that it's my money etc. and they agreed a refund, but wanted to put the DD up slightly.  At first I went for this poor guy's throat but he insisted on using last year's bill, ignoring the fact that that for the last 6 months, our consumption has halved.

Any road up, he told me that new policy is to refund any extra for the first quarter of the year (winter bill) and I reminded him that I may as well save any extra myself as they don't pay interest.  Then he told me you get a 9% refund on your bill as a discount, a bit like interest.  That threw me a little, so I accepted the refund and the slight (15 quid) increase in the DD while I do a bit more maffs.

I still wouldn't trust them, but was surprised at what I found out.

Food for thought....

9%!

Give them all your money. Let them put the DD up as much as they want.

9% is a cracking rate of interest on a loan. Can't think of anywhere else you'd get a return like that. And it isn't as if energy companies are going to go bust or anything.

Could change their rules though.
