Been offered some opaque IBC's which are white not black, described as being used in the building trade to supply water to toilet units etc. Anyone have experience of these and how they compare to black in stpping water going green.

The water will go green. Fresh water (bore hole, rain or spring) will go faster & tap water slower but all will green up as the UV is not stopped by the plastic. What will you use the water for? I would not consider using a white pre used IBC for any water that will be ingested or even for washing (people or clothes) that has not come direct from the first use & that first use must be food so the plastic is food safe grade.

White IBC make excellent log stores or woodchip containers but useless for water storage. All our sprinkler systems blocked up in a matter of weeks. If you have a cheap supply I am looking for a few dozen.

I was going to use them for storing water for using in the garden, later they will feed a poly tunnel irrigation.

I presume that if you kept the light out eg with a black tarpaulin over the top, they'd be ok.

Hi
I use 6 to store water in my workshop, for household use. Not in any direct sunlight and ok after 2 years.
