my off grid system

« on: February 08, 2009, 03:34:48 PM »

Three years ago I decided to build myself a solar system. After considerable development the system is working well. 4KW pv array, outback 80amp controller, 800amph 48 volt battery bank, 8kw combi inverter, and my own management system, which In the winter switches on E7 at night so I start every day with 90% charge in the batteries. From march to Sept the system is self sufficient, at worst I use a bit of economy 7 or nothing at all, if I get more charge than I need I plug the Berlingo in. The whole system is monitored and adjusted from inside the bungalow, 40 tube collector provides hot water, 8k log burner in the lounge keeps us warm, and a Citroen Berlingo Electrique van to get me around locally, no road tax, free parking, and 1p a mile can't be bad.

Hello Terry.

That sounds fantastic, .....but, .....how are you off for bees, organic food and bread baking?
Have you made provision for rainwater harvesting? Grin

An enviable system!  Are those Rolls batteries?  ...and shouldn't they be in a different room to the other electrical bits?

Im impressed with the technology you have used but of course, what ever your reason for using renewables, theres always something else to add to the list and try.
Its not all about electronics, machinery and science.

if you want more pictures how the hell do i do that i would appreciate an email.

I opened an account at photobucket.

Uploading photos (once they're on the PC) is a doddle.

In the options, you can turn on links for forums. This gives the URL of the photo plus the [] [/] tags to embed the picture.

To see an example, http://www.navitron.org.uk/forum/index.php/topic,6169.30.html

click quote on one of my entries and it will show you how the pictures are embedded.

It's easy once you've got the hang of it.

Hydro Caps are wonderful, makes wet lead acids almost maintenance free.

Hi Robby
there's lots of software out there that will compress images. I use Adobe Image ready but fortunately I work where work will pay for the license. I'm sure others canhelp with feeware/shareware?

If you're running Windoze, Irfan View is fast, light and brilliant, but you need a bit of knowledge to use it - otherwise "Picasa" which is free from Google is utterly brilliant - real "entry-level" to use, but remarkably powerful too! Wink
ps, I tend to reduce the longest side to 700 pixels, then "save" at something like 80%
