I installed a 30 tube hot water system when building an extension to a house in West Cork. Before starting I didn’t know what a compression fitting was (being desk bound) but did a one day course with Ecologics in Bantry and with information and encouragement from this site muddled through. The builder put in two venting slates on the roof and the plumber an up and down pipe from the attic space to the tank.It took far longer than expected with stops and starts and frustrations (and fernox). I'd say it took me about 8 days over a 4 week period. Being the first time all the problems were new and took time for me to work through. Spent a lot of time fixing leaks. What a joy when the pressure stayed high.
The spec is 30 tubes with a 3 coil insulated 200 litre boiler, old radiator as a heat dump and a Resol controller. It’s pressurised to 2 bar using a garden sprayer. The other coils are used for a wood/turf stove and oil central heating. It cost me about €2,100 including the tank € 800 and net of a government grant of €790. This excluded labour, me with a little help from brother and brother in law. Its working well but I will do some fine tuning this summer.
Thanks for your help.

hi Pete
well done. Have an applaud from me. I would advise getting some better insulation for the solar loops? The grey stuff tends to melt at high temperatures. Looks a bit warmer than here in Northumberland!

Thanks
It may not look like it but insulation is high temp armaflex. Pipe runs are just about functional but not very pleasant looking. Gaps have been filled since photo.

Are you getting much shading from the roof in front of the panel?

House is facing south. I did check for shading before putting up the panel. Sun hits it from early morning on. Perhaps in winter when the sun is lower in the sky, shading from the roof in front does have an affect early morning but there is not much heat then anyway.
