Hello,

My hydro has been running for a couple of weeks, merrily churning out around 730W, and I'm about to sign up for a home generation contract with Green Energy, who have requested a schematic of the installation.

I installed the total generation meter in the following position so that  I could get a measure of the efficiency of the rectifier/grid tie inverter:

Generator ----- Generation Meter ----- Rectifier ----- Grid Tie Inverter ----- Consumer Unit ---- Supply Meter

The GTI is displaying an output of approximately 90% of the kWh showing on the generation meter.

Is the generation meter in the 'correct' position - recording the output of the generator?
Or should it be between the GTI and the consumer unit - recording the input into the grid?

I obviously prefer the former but don't want to get in a fankle with credits and ROCs at a later stage.

Green Energy told me to ask my installer. I gave myself a good grilling but am none the wiser.

Anyone out there know for sure?

Malcolm

You should be measuring the output from the GTI, so position the meter between GTI and consumer unit.  There should be a lockable disconnection switch there too.

I concur with ted - for once Wink

the 'power' made at before rectifier point is not 'grid power' therefore not meterable properly, surely.

Yes TED is correct where you have it is is also measuring the losses in the rectifier and the GTI.
