Nice idea about the frame spacer... I wonder if it could help on all 30 tube installs?

Make a aluminium or steel spacer pre-drilled at right centres - install frame minus the collector manifold using the straps (save weight carring up the ladder). Remove spacer, fit manifold. bodge done.

Only problem I can think off is if the manifolds / frame lugs are made with different spaces due to variation in manufacturing? WDYT?

I wouldn't think that manufacturing variation would be enough to cause a problem, even if it was a couple of mm difference it still would not affect the strap positions enough to worry about, as the length of strap gives a bit of room for lateral error anyway.

I have done a similar thing with 2x1 roofing batten, sure makes the single handed placing of a 30 tube frame a mite easier.
