My first attempt at documenting stuff did not get off to a good start and it got even worse. My web host for the pics was not good, so welcome to the new improved and even cheaper story.
I have never much liked towns and streets, just felt a bit hemmed in all the time and when the council sold off the allotments and orchards at the back of my house, that was it. The wilderness and out of the way places were not an option and Mrs B suggested living on some form of boat. We spent some time looking at all the tut we could afford. After much ado we eventually sold the house had a hull stuck together for us for me to finish off and fit out.
This off course meant living on our little motor sailing boat whose useful interior living space was an area of 16ft x 7ft. Mrs B, two collie dogs, two cats and myself moved onto this craft of luxury in March 2003 and we all spent 3 happy years until the barge was almost habitable. I say we all, not quite, the cats left home after the first high tide (about 3 days). One left for another barge, short-cutting (obviously very wise) the build stage and the other went back to the previous owner who felt sorry for it. One of the dogs, sadly, didn't make it either.
The 55'x12' shell arrived for me to finish off and start fitting out. I am lucky and can turn my hand to most things. Particular attention was paid to heating and power. Insulation in a steel boat is crucial and the whole thing was polyurethane spray foamed. A 683ah Rolls battery is the heart of the 24v system with a Victron multiplus 3kw inverter powering the 240v side. Battery charging is from the main engine (Ford 2772) when out and about and through the Victron should mains hook up be available. A Rutland 910 was used on the boat but was upgraded to a Navitron 300 wee beast. Far too noisy on the boat and is being relocated to land. Fantastic output and virtually quiet with the low noise blades.

Heating is by a 7kw drip feed heavy oil Kabola unit feeding 4 cast iron radiators, the biggest weighs in at 23 stone. The pipework is 1 1/4" galvanised stuff and the system is sealed gravity. A Morso Squirrel WBS is tee'd into the top end to gravity feed the front part of the boat. The DHW is supplied from the boiler or 1kw immersion heater or from the Navitron Tubes (awaiting fitting on turntable). Tank is a Newark special. Water is 2bar from a pump fed from 2 storage tanks totalling 1700 litres.

One of the baby radiators which I think should be with St.Barnabas. 3/4" tees off the 1 1/4/" main loop. Cast specially for Mrs B. Cor, must tell her about that dust!

Originally the Rutland and the Navitron 300 were on a third lowering mast on the back end of the wheelhouse. The Rutland was fine, bit noisy in a blow but tolerable. The Navitron was appalling. Nothing grew or lived within a 500 meter radius until the low noise blades arrived. Now it is soundless but inside it was a different story. No amount of soft mounts seemed to make a difference and Mrs B just would not wear the ear defenders I supplied, such a waste.
So after one or two attempts at land mounting I came up with the idea of using an un-stayed telegraph pole.

I used one of those new fangled hydraulic post hole borers to make the hole. Cunning devices sadly it only came with one extension bar instead of two. That put it only 1.8 meters in and I really wanted 3. The chain and the 2 barrels (water filled) add 500Kg and the 28lb weight on the top is what I hit it with but only when the tide is out because it stiffens up when the water is in. It goes down up to an inch a day and I reckon I have another 30 to go.
The original Navitron tower has been welded up and stiffened at the joins. It will have a goose neck about one meter from the marsh to avoid the worst of the water. It will be hauled up on a rope tackle and be clamped at the top of the pole. Access to the clamp is via the original climbing cleats. Might even be able to lasso it from there too.

This is why it has to be up a bit, don't want the blades hitting the water.

Been playing with some SMD LED G4 replacements. Only 8 grams, so managed to cobble this together to replace the golf ball room heater bulbs. Warm white as well so Mrs B happy.
