I have just fitted one of these See link below) and so far it seems to be very good, it also allows all of the small particle's to sink to the bottom of the filter cage.

Mine is set up slightly differently to the picture as i have already got the  feed pipes from the gutters in place so the filter is fitted on top of the tank and i have capped of the small outlet and all of the water is filtered and goes straight through into the water tank. It also seems quite good value for money as well.

is it a plastic mesh? The way you have got yours set up means that if the filter gets blocked then the does it back up the pipe or just go unfiltered into the tank? Also, I cannot work out from the pic how you clean the filter if it is inline with the downpipe? The other filters I have see have a side entry filter which completely removes for cleaning

The top cover lifts up so you can slide the filter out.

the filter basket is very course 5 mm sq holes but the base is solid up to the first 2 cm this allows the sediment to settle to the bottom.

I will try an and take some close up pictures and post here
