Dear All,

We thought you might be interested to know that we have recently decided to distribute our flagship software application RainCycle completely free of charge. RainCycle is a state-of-the-art computer simulation of rainwater harvesting systems that can be used to predict their water saving potential as well as any financial benefits. It is applicable to most types of modern systems such as those typically installed in residential, commercial and institutional buildings. RainCycle has been used in a number of academic research projects relating to rainwater harvesting. It has also been the subject of a peer-reviewed journal paper and has been referenced in several other publications.

Feel free to visit our website at www.sudsolutions.co.uk and download copy of the application (please note the terms and conditions that apply to the freeware version).

Regards

Ps - a note to the forum admins, this isn't spam as we don't actually sell anything and the application we're giving away is likely to be useful to your members on this particular part of the forum. I've done quite a lot of research on rainwater systems in the past and I simply use my website to distribute some of the work I've done.

A fine contribution. Thank you.

Reading the license you are allowing distribution, requiring attribution and disallowing commercial use. You should considuer using a standard Creative Comons license specifying these things, rather than your own, as this helps make clear to people what the deal is and gives you much better legal protection than your own licence is likely to do. It also makes mixing this code with other code much better-defined.

Your spreadsheet makes heavy use of Macros which means its doesn't work under Open Office. Are you interested in doing an OO translation, which would make your work accessible to many more people (very nearly everyone in fact)? I don't know how much work this would be (quite a lot I suspect - there appears to be a great deal of work in there), but if you made clear that you were amenable to such a translation then somone will probably come along and do it at some point.

Finally, I'd ask you to consider putting the code under a copyleft licence, so that it is possible for others to develop the software further, or make other useful changes or improvments and pass them back to you. Your existing licence does not allow such modifications. Are you sure that's what you want?
