After being self-sufficient on solar for heated water for around 3/4 of March, it was disappointing to see our run of good luck come to an end today. We've had overcast cloudy weather for about three days now, with only very brief periods of sunshine (if at all). This evening, the cylinder had only managed to reach 44C (compared to 50C yesterday, and 52 the day before), so we had to fire up the gas boiler - first time for almost a month!

Down here in Brighton it's been good.
Yesterdays cylinder temp was 59 top to bottom, with plenty of water drawn off during the day, only used the boiler once last month.   Smiley
Looks like I will have to start planning my heat dump.

Sunny Bristol :

Time------------------9h30-----------19h00-----delta
Bottom of tank-----28----------------56---------28

Top of Tank-----------49----------------59----------10

So on average 19 degrees increase -> Nearly 4 kWh. Only 3.3 kWh of PV though, because of the cloudy morning...

Includes one shower and a full load washing machine (fed with hot water)

Sunny Royal Berkshire.  April 2nd:

216 Litre tank, 30 x 58mm tubes on S/W 40deg sloping roof

Time------------------Midday--------18:00--------delta
Bottom of tank----------28------------62----------34

Top of Tank-------------37------------62----------25

Sun did not appear until after 11:00 today.  Prior to midday 3 showers and 1 washing machine load had virtually used up all yesterday's hot.  Yesterday was a little better than today for total heat gain.  However, the sun was shining nearly all day with just some partial cloud cover during the afternoon.

Brrh ! this mornings shower was only 40c top of tank - not hot enough for she who must be obeyed . Nice sunny day though with 54c whole tank and some dump to second tank.
her indoors tells me that this also included one load of washing and washing the floors.

George, You're close enough to get the same weather as me, I think. We had a rubbish day yesterday, but today, we had top and bottom of cylinder at 55C by evening, despite overcast weather until lunchtime.

Sunny Royal (East) Berkshire. April 4th:

Cylinder 1 = 216 Litres, Cylinder 2 = 186 Litres; 30 x 58mm tubes on S/W 40deg sloping roof.

Time-----------------10:00---------15:00--------delta
Cyl1 Bottom-----------23------------62-----------39
Cyl1 Top--------------45------------62-----------17  (the 45 at Cyl1 top is remainder of yesterday's gain.)

Auto switch to Cylinder 2 between 14:00 and 15:00 (Second auto-switch between cylinders of the year.)

Time------------------15:00--------19:00--------delta
Cyl2 Bottom------------26------------42-----------16
Cyl2 Top---------------27.5----------41.5---------14

Main usage of hot water during the day = 2 showers and 2 washing machine loads. (Fairly light for a Saturday!)

Very clear day.  Bright sunshine from just after 10:00.  At 13:05 BST measured 135K Lux in direct sunlight.

Just a few light clouds appeared early afternoon but soon dispersed.

Best day of the year so far.

My tank hit 66C top to botton, but would have gone higher if we hadn't used 40+litres of hot water at tea time (dishwasher and rinsing pans etc).

So far, we've only had the one day since the first week of March when we've needed the boiler to heat the water.
