Hi,

Just been reading a French PV forum, a bl**dy minefield (thanks to the taxman)! Quotes of ~€18k installed for 3kWp, €14k after tax credit - provided you're paying tax, that is. Will investigate whether the CGT on a UK property sale will get us the refund - assuming we manage to sell this year.

Thanks for all info, now need to digest and decide.

Found out Bosch say the freezers, fully stocked and un-opened will survive 54hrs without power, so perhaps not the panic it seemed yesterday.

Shame they don't make polytunnels  Smiley

Good Morning,

I was looking at a way of using my grid-tie panels in the vent of a blackout.

I had an idea to use my Mastervolt 1500W sine wave inverter off my two battery banks to generate 'mains' and then use this to 'fool' my SMA's that it was incoming mains. I haven't thought out the details and I'd obviously need a suitable switch so that the whole thing was isolated from the normal set-up so I don't export off the property.

I'm sure somebody will tell me that the Mastervolt won't deal with this so I imgaine I'll need to isolate it in some way or is it a complete non-starter?

Regards

Richard

The SMA's won't be happy with it. Grid-tie inverters have anti-islanding mechanisms designed in so that they cannot 'see' the output from another inverter as the mains.

Hi,

I'm a bit tied up over the next few days, but had a quick look at the Sunny Backup, would this work as a stand-alone battery backup without any other Sunny products / PV?

It would, but it's overkill for a pure backup solution - if I'm understanding you correctly, you're looking for something to tide you through a power outage without the benefit of solar or wind.  If that's what you're after, then a <insert your favourite inverter/charger> + batteries would do the trick.  One of the key components of the sunny backup is the transfer switch, which you won't need.  Will be more cost effective to get a sunny island + your own batteries.

That may well be true with SMA's - but I was having a frank discussion with another manufacturer of GT inverter, and they suggested that it would be very very naughty to fool their inverter using a cheapo pure sine wave one.... not that anyone that they knew had done this - oh no.... very bad............. You can configure the Sunny Boys to work in off-grid mode which will let them sync to other inverter outputs.  This mode basically tells the SB not to care about the grid impedance and just connect based on frequency and voltage.

Just put a lock or something on the car as otherwise the mains will go off and you'll go out to the shed to find that not only has the battery died but someone's made off with your "generator on wheels" coz it had the keys in the ignition...

Found this last night, seems to do it all, no idea of prices yet or whether they're approved for FITs in France. Anyone got any experience?

Hi  i know of them and first thought great

But on the other hand  i prefer  components to be separate in case something has to be repaired , beside that someone whispered the price  to me  ( over 7500 Euro  Tongue )
