After lying in the garage for nearly 6 weeks decided that it was time to get cracking on with the Solar tube install...I was surprised how trouble free mounting the frame on the roof was (But I was unable to locate the bat straps in the roof space once pushed under the tiles  wackoold.

Got rained off after putting up the frame, then yesterday gave up after 12 tubes pushed in....it's hard going fitting the tubes yourself......helper a definite requirement to save the legs ....the brother in law gave me a hand up with the manifold on Saturday

Purchased a lead flashing pack from navitron for the pipe penetrations but, once up on the roof I was a little daunted at how to fit them therefore, went for the core drill through the roof option with the silicon sealant. (Noticed that Screwfix do a lead replacement option with a fabric material and primer!!)

Anyway with 4 hours overcast weather yesterday, managed to raise the bottom of the tank temperature from 10oC to 24oC with only 12 tubes fitted....another 18 to go Grin

Left enough space either side for two 20x58mm panels in the future........

Use a hand-held metal detector to locate the straps.

Should see some more heat being produced once you get the rest of the tubes in. If you're seeing a 14C with only half the tubes inserted, on an overcast day, it can't be bad!

very neat. You might want to use some of the rest of the space for PV in the future too. Turns out they don't make roofs quite big enough in this country...

not wrong there, I would love to pull my hipped roof out to a gable for the extra 40% ish roof area it would give me...

Just finished the additional install of another 36 tubes on the roof taking the grand total upto 66. extrahappy

Well done Stevie, it's good to see solar thermal getting a mention on the forum once more instead of all this 'flash in the pan' solar PV stuff  Grin

66 tubes, just how hot do you want your water?Huh??

30 tubes, south facing gable wall (Navitron Fornax Trial System).  Hunter Herald 8, integrated boiler hooked up with Oil Boiler via Dunsley Neutraliser.  Scrounging fire wood wherever possible Smiley

He's in Lanarkshire, my home county, so the additional tubes make up for the lack of sunshine hysteria
