For Ted, Lightfood etc:

Wasn't sure whether to put this in biomass or random.  I'm seriously thinking about doing a postgrad/qual of some sort  in forestry or arboriculture. I've been working in renewable energy of various sorts for 5 years now, having got a geography degree and an MSc in Environmental Technology, both with research focus on biomass/agriculture issues, and I've felled/planted thousands of trees on my Dad's farm.  - I'm not too bothered about the qualification per se, but would like to get a really good grounding in theory. Idea is to end up still doing clean energy work, but either combined with forestry consultancy/contracting, or biomass stuff.

I just did a brief www trawl and there are hundreds of options; so to narrow it down a bit, can anyone tell me which are the 2-3 top institutions for forestry work in the UK (and Scotland, if there is a good one)?   After that I'll think about whether I can do something full time/distance or part time.   Or should I just get some good books and carry on teaching myself ad hoc.

Thanks all
Charlie

Bangor in Wales is regarded as one of the top forestry courses. Their forestry school is now called 'School of the Environment and Natural Resources' - http://www.senr.bangor.ac.uk/

I'm not sure if Edinburgh University still do anything on forestry - http://www.geos.ed.ac.uk/abs

There is also Aberdeen - http://www.abdn.ac.uk/~for257/MSc%20Forestry%2005.htm
