Just caught the end and it had some interesting stuff on the protests and commented on the fact that all the people photographing the police were breaking the law.

If any of you are Tom Sharpe readers, who are familiar with two of his works, Riotous Assembly and Indecent Exposure, you will find some striking similarities with current policing policies.

Tom Sharpe was expelled from South Africa for his anti apartheit views and work.

His stories focused on the paranoia of the police who believed all the Blacks were communist insurgents and policies were adapted to focus the fight on the non existent "rebels"

Not the Nine o'clock did a parody sketch on the tactics of the infamous SPG police. Arresting a blackman for having thick lips and curly hair, whilst avoiding walking on the cracks in the pavement and loitering with intent to use a pedestrian crossing was deemed to be cutting edge humour in 1981.

After the events of the past 2 weeks, are we still amused by the farcical sketch or is it just getting too real for sanity?
