Just read a throwaway line in another post.. Do birds peck away at Armaflex?
Does the sun degrade it?
Do I have to cover it up where it's on the roof?
I was just getting round to telling the scaffold guys to take their erection away.

No comment to the last line but i guess it makes sense to use it whilst its still there
It does need protecting from sun, frost and birds

Always a good idea.
You cant tell by looking these days just how much trouble it might lead to if you dont.
As we say, a stitch in time saves mine

I like your style 'seems'and 'might be' are not entirely conclusive.
'seem quite' might be more than 50%? there again it might not.
Unfortunately sometimes errors can be additive, so with all the ifs and buts it may be that UV resistance is relatively better (than the stuff which degrades completely in about 6 months depending on whether it is put up later in the year or earlier), but will still degrade eventually.
Much better to cover it now, than replace and cover it later.

I've not noticed and degradation over time due to UV. Birds love it though, and have almost completely consumed the armaflex on one end of my original panel array. I now wrap insulation tape right around it - seems to work well, so far. There is a version of armaflex available with a hard outer coating designed to keep the birds at bay - Navitron can provide it, if required.

On the commercial HVAC jobs i was part of the laggers used a type of kingspan ish insulation taped up with metal tape and then the whole lot was wrapped in some rubbery stuff that was glued to itself to make it completely waterproof and bird proof and uv proof, maybe look at the TAPE section in screwfix, they have a dazzling array of tapes laters

Was it Self Amalgamating Tape? If so - its available from "the fix": http://www.screwfix.com/prods/58911/Sealants-Adhesives/Tapes/Building-Tape/No-Nonsense-Self-Amalgamating-Tape-25mm-x-10m;jsessionid=00KEEIM0RLU5WCSTHZPCFFAI'd better get a few rolls for next weekend, as the tubes are going on the roof then, and as the Crows next door hate us you can bet that the second the armaflex is up they'll have their pecky beaks into it.

Armaflex certainly does get attacked by birds and rats,a cheapo method of protecting it is to wrap it with old pvc feed bags, secured with insulating tape....works a treat!

There goes the neighbourhood. I knew someone would have to lower the standards. A typical farmers trick.

Sorry i can't see the stuff i was on about in the fix. Your link deesn't seem to work. The self amalgamating rubber tape that i can find seems a bit narrow. The flashing tape that Loir mentions looks like it is the best that i can see (that is what i would use) laters ps Tie those feed bags on with bala twine!
