Sorry it took so long to find again,  thought I'd stuck it in favourites.

I made one of these a few years back - It worked for about 6 months but was getting too hot and I could not be bothered sorting out the air flow etc.. It's a scaffold pipe welded in the top of a gas cylinder/wood stove conversion. I piped the hot air (via a haidryer fan) directly into the side of the tumble dryer. I had a switch that disconnected the heating element in the dryer!

Very impressive. I'm still toying with various ideas. What I'd really like to do is stick some water coils into a tumble drier, then it could recirculate water from a hot water cylinder, or direct from a solar collector, or from a heat source etc.

This is cool!  I used to think about having my partner make me a solar powered charge for my cellphone but after seeing this, I want this too!!!

Ivan,

Why not build a small drying room/ cupboard with a radiator in it to dry the clothes, slatted shelves and rails for hangers at the top ?

Or you could build a solar powered drier now summer is nearly here.

I was thinking perhaps a long piece of string between two posts, with clips to hold the clothes on. If there was wind as well as sunshine this could speed up the drying process. I wonder if this could catch on?  Grin Grin Grin

Ivan - use a car heater matrix - nice and compact.

IIRC these are rated about 4kW

my wife has managed to turn our expensive wedding present John Lewis bath sheets (like towels - but huge...) into sandpaper. Only battering in a tumble dryer makes them nice n fluffy - but we dont have a tumble dryer (but do have a water wheel laugh  Grin
