I would like you all to raise a glass & join me in a toast to my solar panels.

We use 3kwh per day. About 2kwh during the day for fridge, freezer & laptops etc & about 1kwh at night for tv & lights.

Today we made 3.6kwh so the 2kwh day usage was covered but also the night 1kwh & the charging losses were also covered so today was are first truly totally off grid day WOOHOO

Your mains kwh prob cost about 14p each whilst mine cost over 70p each from the genny.
So that sharpens the mind to reduce units used.
After allowing for solar units made our units cost about 48p each.

I was at my engagment party 30 years ago tonight.  it all seems like another lifetime away, so much has changed.

im so glad ive been there through out my life to see it all happen cos if i saw it on film, i wouldnt have believed it.

double diamond was 34p a pint, petrol shot to 70p a gallon that summer, i didnt have the nerve to see my doctor about contraception and a pair of levis cost about 7 quid.

HOw awsome is that?

it sure is a landmark day and so is everyday, so live it like its your last, .......every single day

Well done Just !

It is a very special feeling when the PV system is 'making' more more energy than is being used !  Almost Magical.

But don't rest on your laurels here - with that 1200wp of kit in full sun all day you really should be able to see 7kwh on a good day this time of year !  Wink

Best regards

Bill

Dont make me cry lol.

Been getting 4kwh / day now the 1200 watts are installed & we have been having overcast days. Its even been doing a EQ charge as we had filled the bank.  Even if I had a perfect site I would still get a slightly lower output as the controller is maxed out at 80amps & 1200w could be 100amps at 12v or 85 amps at 14v. But better to cap a few amps at the top & have more on lower power days.

What does this post have to do with the thread? It's not the only completely-irrelevant post from you on various threads. Can you please try and stick to the subject, or refrain from posting if you don't have anything relevant to say.

whistlie  .... Wookey   i know,  but some Girls are like this  from time to time  tomatosplat

Justme i saw you asked on the outback forum about  extending the AMPS to the limits of the Chargecontroller

and  I am not 100 % sure if its OK to install more power then the chargecontroller can handle occasionally
How is your feeling about this , cause i think of getting more PV as well and the deal i found would be  then 2500 watt for a FM80  at his limits . If you say he will cap the high performance  and just  ignores the more Amps or do you think it could stress him too much ...

Nice to see your independence day = each day the Generator has a Rest

thanks Billi

The advice I was give was that as long as the V dint go over the limit then not to worry about the watts or amps. They say that it will just cap them at the level you set (its adjustable on an FX80). The highest mine has been is 79.8 so I am not sure if it capped it at that or it just really was that.

On mine I get a theoretical amps of

1, 1200w @ 12.2v = 98.3a
2, 1200w @ 14.8v = 81a
(I never let the bank go below 12.2v & my EQ is 14.7)

So far highest watts I have seen is 1030watts on the 1200w array
& 830watts on the 800 watt array.

My next change will be to a higher voltage set up. But as we are meeting all our power needs as we are its hard to justify an upgrade. But it would mean that out side of summer we would be better off too. Cash wise any larger & the payback time & the costs goes through the roof & the yearly cash savings are low.

hi
was just about to post but JustMe beat me to it. Normally (Allways?) overcurrent is not a problem apart from the obvious loss of efficiency. Unlike Overvoltage which can blow your Capacitors or IGBT's.

sounds then  ok to me  if i stay right with the volts

What do you think   about  this , i can get 12 panels with 165 watt   each about 44 volt (VOC or OCV   Grin ) and two 175 watt at 44 volt (VOC or OCV   Grin )  so 7 strings at  about 88 Voc   , what happens to the 175 watt panels ? , if paralleled to the 165 watt strings ?  Not that iam greedy , but will their power be reduced  to 165 watt cause i heared its always the weakest panel dominates the whole lot

cheers Billi
