I was tempted by the cheapness of the aircon units last weekend at B&Q, particularly the 12000 inverter system, around £174, but by the time I decided to bite the bullet, they'd sold out. Subsequent research on the internet suggested that perhaps that was a good thing for me. Has anybody had an experience of these units, good or bad? Are they best avoided?

wasnt it that price for the indoor unit and the same price for the outdoor unit?

in my local b&q it was about £400 for both units, although they were advertised seperately!!

£87.61 for each unit. There were various units also available on-line, but not the inverter model that I had seen in the shop, which was 'A' rated for heating and cooling. Our local Wickes sold off some units for £100 per unit, £200 in all, but they were 'C' rated, I think.

Don't waste your time on the cheapos with the plug and play connectors. Will they be supported for spares in a few years time. If you try your local Climate Center, they often have good prices on quality name brands such as Panasonic for not silly prices.

I bought one of their 12000btu wall-mount DX units a few years ago, during a hot summer, installed it in our bedroom (3.5m x 4.5m) and put the external unit out on the utility room roof.
After running it for a few weeks I wished I had bought the smaller (cheaper to run) 9000 unit.
It could easily chill the room down to 18C even in the hottest weather.
It was a little too noisy for the wife at night so I had to turn it off, but the room took hours to heat up again so I was asleep by then.
Cost £399 if memory serves me correctly.
I've moved house since, and can't use it in the new flat, but still have it in the shed for when I move again.
