Hi all

Could anybody recommend a book or books that cover everything from the theory through to the practical installation of solar PV please?

Many thanks

I would recommend "SOLAR ELECTRICITY" by Simon Roberts -A practical guide to designing and installing small photovoltaic systems. ISBN 0-13-825068-5
Good book with useful equations for calculating things like useable battery storage , best buy battery ,sizing a system etc.
Not for seriously large systems -but i guess things could be scaled up.

I would welcome a good book too.  The one that is recommended is 7 or more years old probably over focussed on batteries compared to grid tied.

The whole question of matching panels to inverters is pretty daunting.  Not too few panels to get sufficient voltage and not too many so that Voc at cold temperatures damages the inverter.

As for two strings.........  If one gets shadow and the other does not, is that an issue?  or do they both have to be equal?

It is a big unknown out there.  Slowly, by asking questions like these, I am learning but it ain't easy.  Then there is the big unknown of feed in tarriffs and ROCs and whether the Government wants to help the little man or just to spin.

George- was that book any good for your needs? any other comments on it?
I agree with JohnS that grid tie stuff is important to my plans- and share his questions about partial shading etc.
everyone else- any PV books you can recommend?
much appreciated.
