Wanting to do a CHP using woodchip but never finding an off the shelf gasifier to do the job. I have come across this company and was wondering if anybody knows whether the system works.

I know the GEK gasifiers have had a few adverse comments recently

RJ,

The company promoting the "Woody" gasifier have set up in direct rivalry to Jim Mason who developed the GEK.

There have been some pretty poisonous YouTube videos from the creator of the Woody, aimed very personally at Jim Mason and his design.  It's turned into a bit of a feud.

Both of them are eager to promote their systems - but neither system is entirely bug-free.  It's going to take a lot of hard development work to get the humble Imbert downdraught gasifier to compete in the C21.

Meanwhile, fighting aside,  Ankur Scientific are producing gasifiers of all sizes.

List,

Jim Mason is running a course on gasification this weekend in Berkeley, California.   Apparently there is someone from the UK attending.

Here's a youtube of his introductory speech - explaining how he and Allpower Labs got into gasification.

Plus some general photos taken by one of the course delegates on Flikr

Ken

This is the other gasifier I have seen but to keep it totally renewable I will need to use rape oil. Website looks to me more like a snake oil site.

http://www.3rdrockenergy.com/truck-car-gasification.html

The aim is to convert a MB Trac 1000 tractor to woodgas and then attach a 70 kva pto driven generator to it so that we can use as normal tractor during the day and then generate electric for the grid at all other times.

I thought something was going on with GEK as it is only recently that the dirt has started to fly.

Care to share more on the GEK?  I thought it looked quite a good starting point and a couple of us are looking at making some of them from the designs they have.
Is it just mud slinging or are there some issues about the GEK's design?

Phatbob

Type in GEK on google and you will find some you tube videos from victoryworks which explain perceived flaws in the GEK gasifier. You will need to ask Ken how valid the comments are as I am not an engineer, I just wish they could work together for the benefit of the planet rather then slag each other off. facepalm
