Rhys,

Without people like me risking life and limb you would still be making fire with 2 pieces of wood.

Live and learn! (Chimney mounting a 1KW home made wind turbine on a 1940's chimney pot is bad :-) )

The roof was enlightened (Since it had about a tonne less of chimney and slates!!!)

The day the chimney collapsed was one of the nastiest gales I can remember, I was 20 miles away when I got the news and I had to travel back on the M62 but was stood in a jam, no less than 3 Arctic wagons were blown straight over within a 200 meter space. My estate had suffered from 2 chimney topples (including mine) and countless roofs had slates and entire sections of roofs ripped off. It was a frightening 3 days of hell let loose.

Still I would NEVER recommend the installation of a wind mounted turbine.

Niceone rhys

I wouldn't risk life and limb without seeking advice if I was unsure of my subject.   wackoold

Perhaps he should have asked the Forum here before erection.  If indeed it was the turbine to blame, the chimney would still be there perhaps.   sh*tfan

Perhaps you should update your site articles then!

Your DIY turbine project seems to be quite happliy promoting a scaffold pole mounted on a chimney ....... with no mention of the consequences you suffered!  sh*tfan

Please bear in mind that back when I posted that picture of Andy's chimney failure was in the days before swindlesave were (in)famous, and Andy was one of the pioneers. Of course, looking back on it, it was a very bad idea, but perhaps not as obvious at the time. Several months after Andy's accident I remember turning the radio off in disgust, as I listened to idiot Wickes (energy minister at the time) telling everyone that mounting a turbine on your house roof/chimney was a way to generate 20% of your power.

We are wiser than we were then. That is our hope for the future.
