Hi,
I'm now ready to buy a 1-wire usb controller. Would you guys recommend a ds9490r or maybe LinkUSB controller or another. Also where would be the best place to buy these from  (the cheaper the better).

I buy Puce baboons from hobbyboards  http://www.hobby-boards.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=23&products_id=1503. They work, and they can be recognised as a one wire device with nothing else plugged in or a power supply. Very helpful as your trying to get going.

Another source is homechip, who are UK based. About 15 quid. I got mine from fleebay for a fiver  whistlie
The "RJ11" type connector on this driver also serves 5V to drive the 1-wire network (when not in parasitic mode).
