Billi for some reason I thought you were on the Kerry side of the border. I understand it is also very cold in W. Cork/Kerry. The last time we had a really cold snap at this time of the year it was c -5 degrees in theNE of England at Christmas. By new year which we spent in Schull (W Cork) it was about 13 degrees at midnight for the new year so quite a contrast.

Cry  We should have met in Schull for a pint of black porter , i live ca 3 miles out of Schull . ( Did you discover Hackets Bar ?)

Yes indeed very cold here and upto now we had 4 days no water (cause me didnot burry the pipes deep enough) Roll Eyes

Give me a shout next time

Schull?............ hells bells! Back in the early 70's I made an expedition to look at a property there - tiny cottage, miles from nowhere, no "services" -  spring trickling down the rocks a few yards away, 18 acres of land, and as much of the hillside as you wanted - when I saw it the only occupant was an occasional horse......... £2,000! (kicked myself ever since for not buying it!) Grin

oops forgot to lock it. Foolishly, I didn't think you'd all continue voting into the new year. Locked now, and Frotter gets a few points penalty, thus avoiding my having to back-track and change any posts.

Wait a minit, i know what this is about! It's cuz i is ginger innit? Cant have a coppernob winning can we now?   Grin

Hi Billi
Yes I'm sure I was there. Can't remember which one we used for the New Year's celebrations - this was some time ago 95/96. I also rember a very cold winter 77/78 - was in Mayo for the new year and it got so cold that the heating oil turned to wax and the heating failed. The lake at UCD Belfield froze over also that winter.

Just to say Ivan was in Newcastle Friday and brought his IR camera. Got a free survey - so a decent and unexpected prize after all!

Well this is now two years ago and as Forum member of the year 2009 it is time to hand over my tiara.

My personal vote would be for Biff - his contributions have been witty, wise, scary, inspirational and if there is ever need for a new moderator then Biff has shown that he is the right stuff!

I second that.

His practical experience in all things and his willingness to give advice is invaluable.  I admire him for his fortitude in bad health and wish him all the best.

Well, if there was an award for the funniest line of 2011 (or at least since I joined) that would get my vote.

Am I the only one that fears what such a prestigious award would do to Biff. He might go dark-side. He'll be outside luring in 'the old lady's' with the promise of a quick flash of his mighty trophy.

Respect to the mighty Biff.

Martyn.
