For my sins I am also a member of a few hi-fi forums, and one of the most popular sections is the system pics, where members can show off their hi-fi equipment.  Have you ever considered such a thread here for turbines?  A picture is worth a thousand words etc....

Come on guys, don't be shy.  If it is bad idea say so.  If it is a good idea, be proud of your systems and show them off.  Doubtless the pictures could be of help to other turbine users, or those looking for the right solution for their own situation.

On a separate topic, do you ever share information on output?  Nothing too complicated, average monthly output, windspeed, type of turbine, height AGL, that kind of thing?  That too would improve the information available to those looking to invest in the turbines, and would be more practical than simply looking at theoretical power curves.

I know I am new here, but your thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Nic,

Yes I think it would be great to get everyone who has a turbine to put a picture up so we can see what has been done to them like how they positioned them and maybe what colour they ended up painting them.

On your other topic I think that setting up an area so people can put their own information about the turbine they have would be a good idea. Maybe they could update the data every 6 months so you start to get a good idea of the average output in that area.

Chasottoman,

Thanks for the support, just need someone with pictures and data to put up, so the information can be spread.  I'm not aware of any quality pot of information on individuals turbine performance.  I'm not even sure how many there are in the UK, although I did read that it was around 850 in 2004.

There is an active effort based out of this site for the collection, agregation and display of renewable energy collection statistics. Several components are being developed and we hope, as ever , to have something to show soon.

Thanks Wyleu

How close are you now with this. Anyhow how about for now we could just show pics of the turbines we have to get started.

Heres mine on a windy day.

Yes, it's a great idea. I have added a new board 'SHOW US YOURS....' under the ANNOUNCEMENTS section. Please feel free to post pictures of your wind/solar/hydro installations in the new section, and any technical details if you wish!

Ivan,

Thanks for adding the new announcements section, and broadening it to cover other areas as well, good idea.  Nice to see Ted has kicked it off in style, I hope there are many other contributors.

Wyleu,

I'm also looking forward to the new section on performance figures, the more information the better.  It can only help to promote better understanding and encourage the further use of renewable technology.

Chasottman,

Well done for being the first  Grin

Hi Casottman,

Lovely pic - could you tell us the height and capacity of your turbine?
It's hard to tell from the pic and not having seen many of any size in situ - it would help me to figure out what my 2Kw Navitron will look like set in my field.

Good idea about the new board.

To Bargeman and others who have sent me good info - I have come back to one 2Kw turbine as I have installed a very effective wood burner and reduced my daily unit consumption of electricity from over 50 per day to around 20 in very cold conditions.  The electric boiler has only kicked in twice in the last week!
Considerable improvement. laugh
Am now waiting for resolution on the dump load/excess voltage question with grid connections and will soon hope to join the happy band of turbiners - or is it turbinators?!  Roll Eyes

Cheers .......... Suz
