Hi

I have a 1.1 kw AC 230 volt waterturbine running  , but i  would like to change that to just charge batteries

1. can i just buy a car battery charger and connect that to the Waterturbine AC ? And will the batterycharger understand that the incoming AC is limited to say 800 watt ? Do i have to select a battery charger that will not exceed Amps  more then 800 watt ( i mean if i use a 30 A charger =720 watt) would that work ?

2. should i get a rectifier to change the AC into DC   (at my house) and then use a PV chargecontroller to charge the battery , please advice me where to get that rectifier ( i can get PV controllers charging from 150 Volt DC down to 24 volt battery )

3.or get a switch mode power supply (like http://www.meanwell.com/search/spv-1500/default.htm)

Can anybody tell me the difficulties i will have   whistlie

Thanks Billi

Hi Billi,

option 1 is what I use with my 200w turbine, I have a 1.75 amp 48v charger connected to my large bank, a 5 amp charger connected to my 12v bank and a CFL running all the time to tell me if the system is functioning at a glance. It's not the most efficient method but it does use up all the power produced by the turbine.

Good luck, Paul

PS, I must get more PV  Cool

Thanks Paul

I will have a look around to find a charger  or my 3. Idea of a switch mode unit ( just need to make sure to not overcharge the batteries )

Grin   i hope i have enough now  tumble , but thanks to the weather the last few days it seems to bring me through the winter  and shortest day is soon  angel , with the help of the waterturbine (hasnot be running since 10 days now cause no rain fume) Grin

somehow i like the combination of weather and production  and it feels very balanced to me that i return to others , "Yes its sunny , but we need more rain " wackoold

Anyhow nice time of the year now
