I hope everyone has a Happy Hogmanay and prosperous New Year ......We've had just under two foot of snow so far and it's just started again, but at least it's not as baltic as it has been over the last couple of weeks - so it looks like it could be a cosy night in for us! Have fun! LF.

Could you send me some of the white stuff Lightfoot? Not a lot of snow on the mountains here on Crete at the moment, this could be of concern, as that would be next summers ground water supply... Still time yet... The thought of a proper curry is torture too... Happy new decade to all... "Slangevar"

Cretan! Not offended at all Martin... The condition is caused by a comlete lack of iodine in a pregnant mothers diet... This used to happened in the mountain villages of Crete were the rocks & water are devoid of iodine. The irony is that access to fresh or sea salted fish (iodine in sea salt) should not be a problem, as noware on this island is more than 30km from the sea.... Good wishes for the new year... Steve...

I've been slaving over the stove all day preparing some food, for the yearly family bash at the sister in laws. I've made a huge Karahi of chicken masala, lamb keema, samosa's, mini lamb koftas in a spicy sauce and 30 chapatis. I've always had a soft spot for asian cuisine, and have the oppurtunity to refine it working in west Yorkshire for the last five years. p.s I've put on 7lb's in two weeks....love christmas me! chicken

My first recollection of tinkering was wiring a 240v radio cord to a 9v motor to my technic Lego truck, it ended with setting the kitchen on fire!............................I couldn't sit down for two days!

Sound's finger licking good Chook...it's a shame your so far away, it would be a good house to go first-footing I've picked up a couple of good/simple recipes from a mate of mine who's father is Burmese. I was also given a copy of Rick Stein's Far Eastern Odyssey book for Christmas, which looks quite good, but I haven't tried out any of his recipes yet - maybe you can pass on some good tips etc? Have a good one, LF.

Tony, Rick Steins far eastern odyssey was excellent, i cooked the next day after the episode the 'beef rendang' dish which i believe to be in the book........exquisite! finding the galangal was pretty difficult, but i manged to trace some from our local Chinese import shop.
Have a good night mate!

Can't be bad Steve - warmer climes certainly have their appeal at times ....one of the few things thriving in our garden at the moment is a feral Cockeral that we seem to have adopted - not sure where he came from, but he seems happy enough roosting in the trees - although he may get a fright later, as we're be nipping outside for a festive snow bath at the bells....
