Is it ever worthwhile using Economy 7 electricity to heat water to supplement the use of gas. My thinking is that Econ7 is pretty cheap so why not use it, at 5p per Kwh how does it compare to gas.

I can't remember the figgures off the top of my head... but I'm sure someone who does know them will be along soon....

but what I do know is... if you have gas.... stick with it, it'll be a lot cheaper than electrisity...

p.s. i think gas is less than 3p/kw

Gas is more like 7p/unit now. Also factor in heat loss of the tank morning/afternoon...bigger than you think.

My thought was to use Econ7 up until 07:30 in the morning when the tariff changes just to get some heat into the hot tank for the morning rush hour.

So any savings come off the 3p per unit first till you get down to the cut off point.
