House Swap
for a few weeks in July/August we will abandon StBC for a few weeks. Many of you have followed my exploits on the forum. Could do the Northumberland tourist stuff, but you would need to look after cats, dogs,   chickens and livestock. Very Eco house . Cheap holiday!

hi Chicken we do have a part time cleaner and a full time Nanny, but not part of the deal I'm afraid. But it is a great house - will try to firm up dates but not sensible to publish when I'm away on the Forum!  All my friend are very envious and most say that it the nicest house of anyone they know. Obviously Northumberland (Duke of) who owns Alnwnick Castle is nicer but what do you expect?

Apparently my husband is not known for his modesty  Embarrassed
Important to know you lot have got him into light bulbs which whilst filling the hole don't actually provide any illumination.  If you or you partner want to apply make up bring a torch  banghead
At least you can choose to have some lights on .........Sean follows me turning them off ....no sooner has the damned useless bulb warmed up (average time about a fortnight I find) when he turns it off. fight
I spend my hard earned cash on beautiful, sophisticated, elegant mood enhancing, planned, NICE lights ...he changes the bulbs and ruins the whole thing ....I may as well buy candles.
....and its all your fault
Well as Ian Paisley says "No surrender"

Mr StB - you need to do some research on bulb makes / types. Some of them are apalling (megaman GU10 dimmerable ones are awful slow) but some are 90% instant.

Marital bliss then shall ensue. Well - that, a box of chocs, a nice meal out, a credit card bill at Per Una (Marks n sparks knickers dept).....  Grin

Guy
thanks for the advice. I have tried lots of varieties of bulbs and I agree despite Megaman's supposedly good name their GU10s are very slow to warm up. What I need are good dimmable LEDs - Have some very good non dimmable LED GU10s but they were £26.00 each which mrsB loves but costs soom mount up!

hi sean,
yours ,is definatly a very nice part of the world, some years ago my x an i spent a fortnight based in shilbottle,in a labourers cottage attached to a big farm,we toured all over and were amazed at the amount of castles and defensive structures still in good order, bamber was quite something,
the one thing that struck me was the population of young people,,massive.
we got to know our landlords,a very nice couple,he a farmer and she a retired teacher who had to go back to work to put the bread on the table as she said.they explained that their landlord the same duke of northumberland had been refusing to lower the rents despite the hardship being endured as a result of the BSE,,foot and mouth. this same duke had 92 other tennant farmers and they were all in the same boat.
to compare the situations of the irish tennant farmer to their northumberland counterpart in terms of land quality and production does not enter into the equasion but still the word" boycott" was born in the bogs of mayo and farther north they shot and murdered their landlords to hold on to a usless pieces of turfbank.when the irish land commission got hold of the reins the sent these landlord nice I,O,U,s and gave them what they deemed was loads of dosh,,not quite mugabe style but not far off it.
but listening to this tennant farmer complain to me about the injustice,s in the system,i have to say we got one thing right, whistlie

House Swap did you say ......

I'll swap with you!  Wink

No Solar Thermal though. No Solar PV either.

Mind you no ceilings, no electrics, no plumbing, no bathhroom and no kitchen either!  laugh

As such it too would be very cheap to run.

Paul
sorry I have been off line for a week. This year I would be looking for a house sitter. If you have a villa on the Riviera or in Venice on the other hand I might be tempted! We have a campervan which we normally use for holidays

Biff,  yes I am well aware of the Irish situation. My mother was a history teacher and of course growing up in Ireland there were lots of tales of the '30s "Economic War"

Rooster - looks like an interesting project - having spent 10 years working on StBC the last thing I need is another project!

Hi
all. Sadly holiday season is now over but PaulN & Susan very kindly looked after StBC for a week in August. Maybe it is too early for next year but the same offer will apply.
