Daftlad, It makes no logical sense that the FIT is paid whatever for 20years: the amount received is based on output.if your system breaks down after a year and your output is zero you cant possibly expect a reward. Only a banker would expect that.

It's the rate of payment per kWh that is guaranteed for FITs (and adjusted for RPI) nothing more. There is no guarantee that the sun will shine, the wind blow nor that the equipment will continue to function under all circumstances. There is enough small-print in the MCS quotes to cover this.
Kit with more than a 5 year manufacturers warranty is unusual.

But what about the installs that can now have no total generation & export meters?
They will get the "deemed" rate for that size array even if its non functional.
Or have I mis understood that?

Noah I meant that there is a guaranteed payment per kWh produced like what Ted said. I am sure I read somewhere that some PV is guaranteed to produce 80 percent of it's rated output after 20 years, I thought that this meant that they guaranteed the product? Installing PV is a heck of a lot of money which takes a very long time to pay back and if the seals go in 7 years then there will be a lot of very angry people if it isn't covered by any insurance or guarantee. But there again I may have read it all wrong. ta ta

This would only be for an off-grid system where the metering requirements haven't been defined yet. The owner will be required to make a declaration that the power has been produced and used.

Good Evening, Well I phoned the MCS this morning and had a 'chat' with a guy called Kunal who I've followed up on with a direct EM to him personally rather then the generic one posted on their web site. The conversation was going around in circles with my argument being that if a G83 inverter was automatically eligible for FIT's then it made no damned sense at all that CE approved panels from a reputable manufacturer like BP had to be re-submitted to this self styled organisation i.e. MCS. It does seem ironic that Yingli, with all due respect have literally dozens of panels fully approved yet BP have only 7 in transition. I cannot see that MCS can possibly have the legal standing to turn around to the authorisers of the CE mark and effectively question it as this is effectively what they are doing. Having spoken to the MCS I will again contact my MP as this is now starting to bug me. It especially bugs me as I can buy these BP380U panels at a very good price (maybe because some have seen the writing on the wall and are unloading? ) Regards Richard

I called MCS before the consultation meeting about FITs last year to put the case re self build and I think spoke to the same guy (Kunal?) who was attentive. He took my details and left me with the impression that I would be called to submit further info/argument. He said that this possible problem had not occuured to him-although that was probably just a personal view. MCS never got back to me however. When I attended the meeting and spoke to an MCS guy in person, I was taken aback by the completely dismissive attitude towards self-build. Does anyone have the names of MCS officers and co-opted advisers?

I note with some disgust the inclusion of representatives from the BWEA and most ludicrously from the self-appointed, (by, of and for Swindlesave) "Micropower Council".......... There'll be money for roof-mounted chocolate teapots then! Wonder how they'll wangle the income to be independent of measured output................

Good Afternoon,
I just had a call from the nice lady at S&S who has just heard back from OFGEM in connection with the expansion in my system who simply wanted to know if this addition had a seperate TGM fitted. As the nice lady pointed out there were no questions about MCS approved equipment or approved MCS installers simply whether the output was seperately metered!!!! I've just ordered another Elster from that awfully nice man Steve down at UMS and I'm going to keep my head down!!!!!!! Something about creating waves when you're up to your neck comes to mind so while massacring metaphors I'm going to let this sleeping dog lie.
Now to go and get the hob moved back in to the kitchen now the floor has gone down, only another month and the new kitchen will be here - only a year late.
Regards
Richard

Did anyone see the channel 4 news item re FITs on wed 24th (available online at channel4 news site) They show clip of a hydro set up which proudly hopes to be making £2k a month out of FITs but dont point out that this system will not actually qualify.
