Made a "find" - they hide it well, but the evil empire (Tesco) are stocking a very nifty little mobile phone, marketed as a "party phone" - the idea being that it is so cheap that it's "disposable" (what a dreadful idea) - apparently they sold loads over Christmas on the premise that dumbrils can leave their expensive "does everything except make tea" devices at home, shove their sim card in the 'phone (any network except 3g), go off and party, get ratted, lose the "party 'phone", and they're under £20 down..........
Cut a long story short, bought one as a "family mobile spare", and am very impressed - it's really tiny and light in weight, works very well indeed, and is just a very "no frills" 'phone that "does the job" (mobile calls and texts) - £18.99
Ally that to the still unbeatable Asdamobile "8p a call to anything any time, 4p texts" PAYG tariff, (http://www.asdamobile.com/sim_pack.html) you've got a really cheap minimalist mobile............
(and yes, I really did brave one of their larger "mouth of Hades" emporia to get it - but skedaddled double quick having made my purchase............)

Martin,

Often the SIM card, with all your records of people's numbers is more valuable than the phone.  If you lose your phone, and have not backed up your contacts directory to somewhere safe - life can get suddenly very awkward.

I managed without a mobile until I was 36, when the nature of my job changed and I had to use one.  My call use is minimal - so I can't be the best customer to any of the networks.

I also dislike the idea of the disposable phone - but just add it to the list of disposable car, disposable laptop.......

Aren't all mobile phones disposable?   Ten years is about the life of them.

Useful to be able to synchronise   the directory and reminders etc with Outlook.   Also you can send  a text message  without having to  use the  ting buttons on the phone.

Just a heads up...

This phone is now available, ...at a lower price for those like Martin who want a small spare phone on the cheap
VX1 Party Mobile Phone £9.49 @ tesco direct (Free Delivery & 200 free clubcard points)
Was £16.99 online, now same price as previously posted instore deal

This small and stylish VX1 Party Phone fits easily into your pocket or purse. It's a handy alternative to you day to day handset. It's sim free and will work with all sim cards. It has 100 number phone book, 100minutes talktime and 90hours standby.

now you don't even have to visit the devils A-hole of a shop to get one.

Well spotted - it's very basic, but works well, and battery life is good, at under a tenner, a spectacularly good buy! Wink
