Drop forged carbon steel head, heat treated, ground and polished cutting edge. Extra long hardwood handle.
Designed for effortless splitting of firewood logs.
Splitting logs has two advantages - firstly, the wood dries a lot faster, due to the larger area of exposed heartwood - in fact seasoning time can be reduced by half. Secondly, large logs tend to smoulder, which fails to release all of the energy - sending much of it up the chimney as smoke, which causes chimney problems. By splitting logs, the fire will burn hotter and more of the stored heat will be realised.
Unlike an axe, a maul is designed to be wedge-like in it's operation. If you try to split logs with an axe, it is a LOT more difficult!
