Title: 6 volt or 12 volt?

What is the advantage of having a bank of 6 volt batteries (or even 2 volt) over 12 volt batteries for domestic off grid situation? Most systems would be running 12 volt or 48 volt.I understand that a 6 volt may fit better in some installations but if space was not an issue is the advantage worthwhile. Smaller batteries need more cable connections.So for say an average small domestic bank at 800ah is it better to get 6 volt?

Good morning Freddyuk,
                          Obvioulsy there would be less connecting to do working with 12volt batteries but there is no advantage in using smaller 6 volt batteries except if you are going into really heavy stuff like Rolls(sometimes 6v) or forklift which are 2volt and this is because they carry massive amp hours and are very heavy,so really ,Its all about working with them and ease of installation.A single forklift 2volt cell can weigh any thing like 60kgs so if you had a 12volt version of that you could never move it around manually.

I thought the semi-traction rated batteries like the Trojan T-125 ( 6V) were also because they didn't make such deep cycle ones in a 12 volt variant...

It may be though that they would be too heavy as well
