Why do they only jail the perpetrators? They should be hacking out their teeth, dead or alive I'm not bothered...

Slightly off topic but ho-hum.

SB.

Elephant tusks are worth tens of thousands on the black market, people are starving, doesn't matter how many teeth you hack out it wont stop poaching.

Yes but it is not the starving people that are cavorting about in helicopter that are doing it .

Nothing to do with Biomass my mistake Sorry .

Maybe a Mod could move it to General Discussion   rather than General  under Biomass.

The days of the wild elephant bulls are over,
If the powers that be really want to save the species, then they should take the herds out of the parks and collect a few thousand straws of the males,
This will ensure future genetic stability. We are wasting our time and resources trying to seemingly educate the people into looking after their environment while the biggest and best bulls are being picked off to order......Guess what, ?? we cannot even look after our own environment. The farmers want the land that the elephants are on. the poachers want their feet and their tusks. Then we come in, preaching pretty elephants and no wonder they laugh at us.
If we want to help, we do it with an eye to the future breeding in captivity, with like a lot of other disappearing species. I often wondered why, if they were so worried about the elephants, could they not fit them out with trackers and CCtv, or stick a transponder that monitors their heartbeats inside them, sounds an alarm when they get stressed, giving the immediate location.

The slaughter of the elephants is bad enough but what really sickens me is the mass killing of large gorilla families for their feet and hands. I watched a few reports on that and that really got to me. If they could not protect the gorillas, then the elephants don,t stand a chance. These professional poachers will work on until their is no problem left. The whole approach needs to be reconfigured or else they can forget about it.
