Title: Bench power supply recommendations?
Post by: fourfootfarm on March 26, 2018, 04:48:33 PM
Hi,

I could do with something with a decent Amp output and settings for CC and CV for charging lithiums.

eblag is awash with hundreds of different indistinguishable nonbranded ones which makes choosing difficult.

Any recommendations?

Cheers

James

Depends how many volts and amps you want.

I bought this one recently 10A and 32V from eblag, so 320w output max for under 50. If you want more power, then expect to pay several times more for one.

Its easy to use as I did not even need to bother with the instructions and is very accurate, I measured it against a precision voltage reference and it was only 2mv or so out at 5v output.

I used it to balance out a 24v lithium bank at full power for several hours and it did not overheat, it has a cooling fan in it.

My only moan was the supplied test leads as they almost melted over about 5 amps, but that was soon changed.

Its always nice of them to include self fusing leads at no extra cost.

Cheers Nowty I will have a look at that one.

I'd like 48v ideally for controller testing but 10a is plenty. Will have a look at that brand and see if they have any other options. I guess thats another leap up in capacitor cost.

Its still probably cheaper to buy two of them and daisy chain, that's what I will do if I upgrade to a 48v inverter.

Most of the higher voltage ones I have seen are simply 30v dual supplies which you series connect up.

Cheers Nowty, will give it a go.

After splashing out a new Charge controller it might have to wait till next month!

The power supply turned up. Tested it on a big resistor and seems capable of most of its rated power which is nice.

Not really calibrated that well according to my fluke though. Will have to see if it's adjustable or just keep an eye on it
