Title: Chelmsford/ Dover to Aberdeen
Post by: linesrg on March 07, 2019, 09:50:16 AM
Good Morning All,

Before I start bidding I need to sort the logistics. It's a long way but anybody able to assist in getting a 45kg lump up north????

Currently have an offer from somebody coming up from the West Country so need to get it across the M5/ M6 area in this case.

Regards

Richard

titan,

The issue is that it is a lithium battery and this makes it a specialist carrier job.

Try DHL. They shipped my agms no problem so they may well do lithium.

For the life of me I can't remember who shipped my wet batteries a few years ago....it wasn't Hermes.

Hi
TNT shipped my replacement Powervault batteries, There was then a delay with TNT over labelling, but they then picked up the same boxes for return a few weeks later.

Iain,

Powervault as a recognised company who need to routinely ship such as lithium batteries will have a special contract with their chosen carrier. As a private individual getting lithium batteries shipped is a logistical and expensive nightmare unless something has changed since I looked into getting the last one moved.

Have you tried Shipley.com ?
Used them twice with good results . Tell them weight  and item and couriers bid on your item -give a couple days to decide on courier =unsure if they see each others bids  but offers get cheaper .........
I am Gloucester -going North in late April -unsure how far North at moment -happy to help.

Good Morning Guys,

See the attached link for what is required to ship lithium batteries - http://www.fedex.com/gb/learn/lithium-batteries.html (http://www.fedex.com/gb/learn/lithium-batteries.html)

It is very frustrating because many sellers of these won't even have the original UN marked packaging. I actually have the original packaging for the one Growatt battery I have already and could send it so that it can at least be packaged adequately if required.

Because it is such a pain getting these things shipped legitimately is why I'm looking to try and get it moved more practically.

Regards

Richard

Morning Richard, and as per George... I wanted to bid on a rough terrain pallet truck the other side of Birmingham (pretty well a full day out with a trailer) and got Ďbidsí via Shipley starting at £285 and ending at £145 making the deal possible. For something as portable and compact as the battery you might get a good deal - particularly if youíre flexible enough timewise to let them combine a load.
45kg ainít so much. Biff and I used to carry sacks of cement around that were a hundreweight, one on each hip...

No - I wondered if you had??

Guys I will sat here for the 3rd time!! It isnít the weight that is the issue it is the lithium which is Dangerous Goods and needs shipping in UN approved packaging with all the necessary paperwork.

Richard

If it such a problem getting them moved on the queens highway, then why would you want them in your house.
If I was an insurance company, i would put the premiums up!

Look in local paper for "Man with a van", reasonable rates. He wants to earn money and will give you his word that he will not put it on a plane, subject it to high temperatures etc. whistle

Iíd venture not an issue to a self-employed Shipley van driver wanting work. As long as you donít point it out to him/her. Then the price would go up.
