Thatís a heck of a lot of batteries

One stop shopping, very nice and good to see a meaningful capacity being deployed. :genuflect

What happened? By the time I got to the article everything was scaled back by 99.9% to 1-gigawatt-hour...

They have put an Edit on the story,

Edit: The original version of this post stated the size of the battery storage as 1 terawatt-hour, which has now been corrected to 1 gigawatt-hour.

That's a bit like me claiming I have a 50MWh+ battery. :hysteria

So you mean yours is only 50Kwh+  ;D

Oh right - that's one heck of a unit error!
Unless it was an April fool?

The fool is the guy who writes this stuff for Greentechnica. Second, the editorial staff who publish the stuff without appraisal.
A 1 TWh battery would be huge, about the size of a small town and would not easily get passed COMAH imo.

The total output of the Tesla/Panasonic Gigafactory 1 was reported last year as aiming to reach 35 gigawatt-hours pa by year-end (up from 20GWh), so the space needed for a 1TWh store would be a problem, but the team rolling the system out would have a good few years to plan for any issues due to lead times :)

As dan_b has already noted its one heck of a unit error, here are a few more

Well, even if it would be  1 Twh  capacity , I don't think the area footprint is huge,   as far as I understand or tried to understand, it would be about 1 x1 km  and 2 meter high , sure 10 meter or plus heights, reduces that footprint  dramatically, saying that, that's based on , that there is about 500 wh in a volume of a liter of Lion technology,  hope I have that right,   facepalm
