Title: Fujitsu Siemens ESPRIMO Mobile V5535 ..LAPTOP DEAL 249

For those looking for a new laptop 15 inch screen running vista. the price is 249 on it's own, NO phone!

Also IF looking to renew your phone on an 18 month contract you could get this with a phone from phones for you.

Rather than a chunky power sucking tower! & NOT a netbook
Don't have the power consumption, but it's going to be low by comparison.

Good call Rhys!

..didn't see that, I acted on the wife telling me about the phones for you offer, & stumbled across the Fuj carphone deal, didn't look further!

WOW ... I' may be offloading my "newish tower" sooner than I thought at this rate, as part of our constant "can we knock unnecessary wattage on the head lifestyle"
We've got a little Asus (upgraded) 701 eecpc netbook which has been incredibly handy for the nipper to use for her cbeebies & general surfing from upstairs in bed late at night.
I only wish I'd known that you need a 10" screen at the time for full web pages! ...easy to get round mind!
I'd like to match my home office multiple pc useage to the same extent as we are wrapping the room in a extra thick blanket of insulation (piecemeal)

..wondering if they do a "treadle" style power supply for the nippers netbook, so she understands the idea better, notice the freeplay weza is pretty cheap now!

Have you thought about using ultra thin clients?

I think some people manage with a decent spec laptop and then several low power Ultra thin clients running off the laptop.
Depends on how demanding the use your multiple PCs are put too of course.

I've no experience of them and have only read the odd bit myself.

Essentially you use one well specced PC (or Laptop) as a central server.

You then connect clients to the network to give additional 'terminals'. These clients take various forms but essentially the server runs all the software and does most of the work for all the 'network'. This means the clients can be much lower spec, no need for a full OS, no hard disc, very little memory, they really just allow you to connect an additional screen, keyboard and mouse to the server (laptop) so that more than one person can use its processing power.

With Ultra Thin Clients the client can use as little as 4w !! (plus your monitor of choice).
So three PCs become one PC plus two 4w clients!
Five PCs become one PC plus four 4w clients.

There is a catch of course. They can only be used for fairly basic tasks, no latest games or video editing, so you need to check your intended usage against their capabilities.

Sun seem to be the major players from looking around on the net at least.

Lots of further research needed of course but interesting to look at in terms of low power / low heat output.
