when following suggestion to use a slave relay for the water pump, the system does not function.
i have read in the small print of the bs3 manual the need to put a condensor in parrallel, does anyone the size and spec of this?

A typical capacitor would be an X1 class 0.1uF of at least 440Vac rating. These are designed for connecting across mains voltages.

However it will not make any difference as to whether the relay works or not! Check the wiring connections...

Incidentally, the use of slave relays is not essential. The Resol works perfectly well without it. I used slave relays because I strive to get as near 100% reliability as possible and as an Electrical and Electronics Engineer by trade, from experience I know that miniature pcb mounted relays switching an inductive load are, by nature, a potential source of failure.
