Hughie, I'm pleased you haven't had any problems. The chances are that you have a degree of mechanical sympathy and don't rev the engine hard for its first few minutes whilst heating up? That's when the more viscous oil is likely to cause damage.

If you're not selling your car shortly then I would be inclined to fit an engine preheater (Kenlowe do them) so you are starting the car on a warm engine. The heat of the engine transfers sufficient heat to the oil to thin it enough to be less of a problem. There is a chance it is already fitted with a water to fuel heat exchanger (Mercedes cars are, since the common rail pumps and injectors work within a narrower envelope of fuel viscosity, if the fuel is  supplied at 60C within a few minutes of starting, the fuel will be at a particular viscosity) which will thin the oil well.

If you don't plumb in a preheater then starting the car on diesel would protect it from gloopy fuel on cold starts, especially in winter when veg oil thickens significantly. This requires a second fuel tank.

Too many 'nay' sayers on here for me....

Anyway, all the technical stuff is ok .. sometimes you've gotta have a go.

I've even got a license to fly heavier than air aircraft - that won't work, it's against nature just shouldn't be allowed of course.
