Yes Billy,
Unfortunatly, these batteries are dangerous to work at.The two brothers in question were both very experienced forklift operators and ran a very successfull forklift truck hire firm throughout N.I.They had just removed the connectors from a dud cell, which was flooded along with the surrounding ones and were getting ready to lift the cell out when the cell blew between them. One was able to hose the other down with the hose pipe and dilute the acid immediatly but it was a very close call and both of them got very shy around forklift batteries after that. Its seems that there was no valid reason for this cell to blow the way it did.It had been flooded along with the surrounding cells. They were not smoking. There was no ignition source, The only reason they could even guess at,was that the cell was already getting ready to short out inside,That the internal connection to one of the poles fell off and shorted out. This was a little job that they had done dozens of times before only this time it went bad.The repeatedly warned me to be very carefull which I am.

An unpaid Navitron volunteer, who has been living off-grid,powered by wind and solar, each year better than the last one.
